Man dead after falling from escalator at Toronto mall - BERITAJA

The Ministry of Labour has been notified aft a man fell from an escalator and died astatine the RioCan Empress Walk Plaza successful North York Thursday evening.

Toronto constabulary said they were called to the promenade about 5 p.m. pursuing reports of an business accident. The man progressive was pronounced dormant astatine the scene.

RioCan, the institution that manages the mall, told BERITAJA successful a connection that it is afloat co-operating pinch the ongoing investigation.

Lucas Hay said he arrived astatine the promenade about 6 p.m. and saw constabulary portion surrounding the escalator that goes from the crushed level to the 2nd floor.

“We saw a broad complete [the ground] and a batch of cops and information guards conscionable about and past yet we were extracurricular and we saw group coming retired [of the mall],” he told BERITAJA.

He said an announcement was made connected the intercom telling shoppers the promenade was closed and asking everyone to leave. He said nary logic was provided for the closure.

Toronto constabulary confirmed the incident is not criminal successful quality and that the investigation is being led by the Ministry of Labour.
